How to Create an Epic Picture Wall

Photo Accent Wall - Feature

It’s August and summer is nearing an end. Schools are starting, or have started, and soon your kid will be participating in school photos. They may turn out great … or not so great, but you still buy them! And you eventually end up with years and years of photos that you need to display somehow. I found a solution that works for me so I can see many of my photos over the years. I want to show you what I did and how to create an epic picture wall, too!

First week of Kindergarten Recap!

Before I get started, I have to tell you that Harper LOVED her first week in Kindergarten. It’s like she’s all of a sudden a big girl who can do big things. She rides the bus, goes to school, makes her own snacks and opens her own drinks … it’s happened all to fast! Anyway, I’m glad she’s enjoying this Kindergarten chapter of her life … and if she only knew she has 13 years left of school and then some!

Photos, photos and more photos?

With the availability to take photos on a whim with our devices, we have an abundance. We should print out more of them and display them … but where? Photos are memories we can hold … I have photos from growing up, old black and white photos of my parents and grandparents and memories I want to glance at often and reminisce.

Photobooks are nice!

With my own kids I create yearly photo books for them that you can read about here. It really is awesome to take a photo a day and create a memory book to look at and see how they’ve grown. I hope I can keep it going over the years!

Even though I have annual photo books for each kid, I still have a massive number of photos and memories I don’t want hidden away in storage. From professional photos to school photos to candid photos taken on my phone. I even have knickknacks that hang that bring a fond memory.

Epic picture wall!

So, what did I do with all the photos I have? I created an EPIC picture wall!

When we moved into our current house, we downsized a bit. I had a lot of photos and pictures on the walls at the prior house that I didn’t have space for in our current home. So, when we finished our basement, I had to decide what to do with all my existing photos. My office is in the basement and I don’t really have windows, so I needed something interesting to look at and keep me my eyes entertained.

I thought, what better thing to do that to do the entire wall of photos … and as the years progress, I could fill up all the walls in my office. Basically, I’ll have a living picture timeline of my family and the kids growing up.

Frames DO NOT have to match

The frames don’t match … some are white, some black, some unique, some canvas, some bulky … the beauty of this wall is the fact that nothing is the same. It brings it all together in a poetic form. And if you are looking for frames, you can check some out here, on Amazon. Oh, and Hobby Lobby carries many amazing frames, too!

I’ve even thrown in some different pictures and knickknacks to give the wall that perfect vibe. As of today, I have about ten photos I need to hang up, which will probably take me over into the next wall. Which I’m super excited to start on.

Sit back and see a visual life timeline!

I just love looking at this wall and seeing Ben and I before we married. Our life with just doggy kids and then human kids. I love seeing the paintings of our dogs who have now passed and the newborn pictures and hand/foot prints of each of our kids.

The handmade LOVE sign my niece made me when she was one-year-old or the pictures of my dad, whom I miss dearly. I even have one picture of my grandmother in a beautiful dress that just melts my heart and helps me realize how short life really is.

The memories are alive!

This wall is a visual of so many memories and is the perfect way to utilize all the photos I have and will have over the years. I’m ecstatic I get to work from home and look at these memories every day … cause those conference calls get a bit monotonous sometimes!
