How to Frame a Bathroom Mirror

DIY Mirror Frame Feature

Well, hello! I know it’s been a while, but with holidays and life changes, I wasn’t able to post as often as I would have liked. And we didn’t get to work on many projects since we were so busy … but we did get a quick one in. I know I posted about framing my kid’s bathroom mirror with a painting technique here, but today I want to share our master bathroom project. Learn how to frame a bathroom mirror! We did this one in a pretty stain and it looks great!

First thing’s first …

Before I get into our frame project, I should update on the past three-ish months. Yes, it’s been OVER three months since my last post! Hope you were able to make the Taco Soup recipe a few times this fall/winter and enjoyed it. We’ve made it a couple times this past month!

Since my last post we had Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s …. whew! And we were able to get my mom from a hospital in Montana down to Georgia to live with us.

Halloween!

Starting with Halloween, I’ve got to share the kids’ costumes. Harper was Skye from Paw Patrol, Miles was Miles Morales, aka Spin, aka Black Spiderman, and Sawyer was Boss Baby. I’m telling you; the Boss Baby was epic. The only year he could pull it off perfectly! Can’t get much cuter than these three!

Thanksgiving!

For Thanksgiving, we did our traditional dinner at my sister’s house. We ate, we played and ate some more. The cousins always love running around playing. It was a really good, uneventful holiday! Sawyer wasn’t feeling the best, as you can tell by the photo … but he did pretty good. We can’t seem to keep his ear infections away!

Bringing my mom to Georgia!

Just before Christmas my sister, Sherena and I, flew to Montana and drove back with our mom. She’s been in a hospital/institutional setting the better part of six years, since my father passed away. She is so glad to be out trying to gain normalcy again. She has schizoaffective disorder, bipolar type, and hasn’t had it easy. We pray for more good days than bad and always for complete healing … so please join us in our prayer for her. Her name is Karrie.

Anyway, we drove back through some wintery weather and ended up going straight through from Bozeman, Montana to Atlanta, Georgia. It was long and monotonous, but we made it back safely!

Christmas!

Then Christmas was upon us! It was our first year with an Elf showing up at our doorstep. The kids named him Charlie Brown Bear and boy did he get into some trouble. The elf is fun, but exhausting to clean up after!

We also did our annual Christmas tree decorating dance party with the cousins. The kids have a blast and the we get help decorating the tree … works out great!!

And big things happened during the season, too! On Christmas Eve eve, we went on the Polar Express as a surprise to the kids. They were speechless! We had hot cocoa, cookies, chocolate … SANTA VISITED! Definitely a blast!

On Christmas Eve, we did our annual hibachi dinner tradition, followed by our Christmas Eve service at church. I loved how we lit candles. It was very reminiscent of my childhood and memories with my dad.

Christmas day came fast and the kids ripped through all their presents with glee. I think they were in heaven, for just a little bit.

New Year’s!

With only a little time off work, we enjoyed a lot of family time before the New Year. We rang in the New Year at about 9pm with the kids and shuffled them on to bed.

We had dubbed 2021 as the year of transition …we even had it engraved on our cheese cutter! God brought us through the year and we look forward to what 2022 has in store.

Then January passed super quickly (and also gave us a dusting of snow!), which brings us to where we are today … over a month into the new year and staring down Valentine’s Day! How did that happen so quickly?!?!

Other fun news!

Oh, and a  few other fun things that have happened recently. First, Harper got glasses! She can definitely see better in school and it’s helping her one eye, that was getting a bit lazy. I think she’s just the cutest! Oh, and her brothers had to wear some fake glasses to be like big sis!

And the other day I gave Sawyer a faux-hawk. Miles thought it was super cool so kept begging for one. I said, why not and gave him a mohawk. After a couple days, we cut it off … but he had fun while it was there. He rocked it pretty good and I he was pretty cute with it!

How to Frame a Bathroom Mirror!

During the holiday timeframe though, we did get a quick frame around our bathroom mirror.

We purchased a stain worthy wood for the frame, along with liquid nails (one specific for mirrors!) and we were ready to go. Well, we did have our Weathered Oak stain on hand … so that wasn’t a purchase we had to make. I think all in all our project was about $30!

Measure twice, cut once!

First, Ben measured the frame (twice) and cut the pieces. We placed them on the mirror for a rough visual to make sure we cut them correctly. It looked pretty good!

Stain time!

Then we stained them with two coats of Weathered Oak. We chose weathered oak because that is what is on our mantle and our stair railing. That took a couple hours to fully dry before we could place them on the mirror.

After the stain fully dried, we again laid out the pieces against the mirror to make sure we had them in the optimal spot. We needed the nicest part of each piece on the outside, versus the side that would be glued to the mirror.

Liquid Nails …

Then we put Liquid Nails on in a squiggly pattern on the back of the wood. Not too much so it doesn’t smush out of the sides as it’s placed on the mirror. Hold it in place a few minutes so it can adhere to the mirror. You can use painters tape to help hold it in place.

We placed all four pieces and let it dry. We had a tricky spot in the top left corner that we were able to hold in place well enough to stick flatly.

All done!

Then, we wiped down the mirror and it was done. Super simple project that hides the ugly builder grade mirrors. Pretty simple instructions on how to frame a bathroom mirror!

I want to think of something to put in the middle of the mirrors to be some shelving … more to come on that. Will see what I come up with!

Lot’s of visions on the horizon!

And as far as future projects … I have a lot on my wish list over the next year for my house. From the pantry, to the master closet, to opening up our stairs. I can’t wait to make the time to get some stuff done! Oh, and I have a couple of furniture pieces I’m dying to refinish!

Stay tuned for my next blog post and hope you enjoyed learning how to frame a bathroom mirror. It’s simple and high impact!
