DIY Fabric Frame

Hello all you beautiful readers! The sun is calling my name today and I’d love to be outside playing with the kiddos, like we did recently at the beach! But, alas, they are at school and I’m working and blogging. I gotta say, I can’t wait to share this simple décor tip. It’s super easy to learn how to make framed fabric wall art. This is a simple, easy DIY trick to bring a custom element to your home at low cost!

Kindergarten – say what?

Before I get started, can I just say that it’s insane my daughter just had her Pre-K graduation pictures taken? How ridiculous is it that she’ll be starting Kindergarten this fall? She needs to stay my four-year-old princess forever. I tell her that, too. She doesn’t listen though … she says she wants to grow and turn five and go to Kindergarten. Where does the time go?? I digress …

Insanely priced wall art!

Anyway, have you ever really perused stores for wall art, but decided against something due to the insane price? Of course you have … we all do! As a solution, there are so many ways to create inexpensive wall art that compliments your décor, while also not costing much more than a frame. Today I’ll give you a quick and easy idea by making framed fabric wall art.

I’ve done a few gallery walls in my day and these are perfect for them. Or as art hung above a bed or on any empty wall begging for some love. Framed fabric can help bridge a color scheme in a room or create a focal point. The possibilities are endless!

Grab some frames!

First, get yourself some frames. Any frames that have a mat work best. And any size! If the frame doesn’t match your décor, get some spray paint and paint them! Or paint them a pop of color!

I’ll use an Ikea frame for this project. I selected my fabric and purchased a yard. I could have done ½ yard, but I may use it again!

Cut the fabric

Open your frame and determine the size you need to cut the fabric. You want the fabric a little bit bigger than the mat opening, but not larger than the mat. As they say, measure twice and cut once. Might be a good idea here, too.

Next, cut the fabric to the measured size. Grab your tape (scotch tape will do) and tape the fabric to the back of the mat! Make sure the fabric is pulled as tightly as possible and tape it down tight. It’ll just make for a better visual once it’s on the wall.

Frame it!

Now, put the mat in the frame and put the frame back together. Make sure it has hanging capabilities, if not you can use command wall hanging hooks. They work well and solve the problem!

Finally, turn the frame around and check it out! You now have a custom framed fabric wall art piece. Get your hammer and nails and hang in your desired location!

Framed fabric – not my first time!

I’ve done this fabric wall art a few times now. Once in my master bedroom with rotating fabrics. Then I moved those same frames to a guest bedroom when I updated décor in my master. I could have updated the fabric, but it seemed to go well with the guest room so I left it.

I also framed some blue and white fabric for a gallery wall in my prior home. It was right at the entrance and I was able to add to the gallery wall with a coordinating fabric. As I said, there are so many options to add custom wall art to your home or office.

Supplies:
Frame with mat
Fabric
Scissors
Tape

Your turn!

So next time you’re strolling through Hobby Lobby or Michael’s or your favorite fabric store … grab one you love and get it on a frame for your wall! Maybe decorate a room around it … or let it compliment a room you already have that’s begging for a little pattern love. Hope you enjoyed learning how to make framed fabric wall art. Simple. Easy. Fun.

I love this! Fabric has so many uses and creating budget-friendly artwork is a great use for it. I have a piece of wood wrapped in fabric as the background for my mantle right now.
