Easy DIY Wall Art for Your Superhero!

DIY Wall Art

I love a unique wall décor piece, don’t you?  I made this awesome, easy DIY wall art for my little superhero from an art print, wood, glue and paint. You, too, can easily make any size print into a one-of-a-kind piece of wall art!

So, I happened upon these cute superhero prints and snatched them up. They had an 8”x18” poster print option or a canvas option. I chose to go with the prints so I could make them a bit more unique … and save some $$!

They were an awkward size at 8”x18”, so I took a trip to Hobby Lobby to see if they had something in their Woodpile section that I could use to frame them with. And guess what? They had the perfect piece (any piece of wood would work, I chose the Hobby Lobby piece for its “frame” look).

Pro tip: if an item you want at Hobby Lobby isn’t 50% off that week, it usually is the following week. Or, you can always use the 40% off one item coupon they have available online!

Heading home from Hobby Lobby

Of course, I snatched (and paid for!) the wood pieces from Hobby Lobby and headed back home to make them unique. First, painted the wood Positive Red from Sherwin Williams (feel free to use their sample paint for this project – it works just fine and is inexpensive!). This color is part of my color palette for my son Sawyer’s new Superhero nursery I just posted.

Secondly, I needed to put the prints onto the wood and the best option was none other than good old Mod Podge. That stuff has so many uses … I think I already need to buy another bottle! The prints were slightly too wide at 8” to fit in the middle area of the wood piece I selected, so I used my exacto knife to trim them.

Pro tip: if you need to trim a poster print, leverage a level as a straight edge and exacto knife down the edge (on a piece of wood or other hard surface) for a nice clean cut!

Mod Podge Time

Now, place Mod Podge on the back of the poster print and then lay it face up on top of the wood. Mod Podge generously over the top of the print and let dry. Voila! You have an amazing, easy DIY wall art piece for your little superhero!
