St. Patrick's Day Farmhouse Decor

It’s St. Patrick’s Day … which just happens to be one of my most favorite holidays! Not only is my favorite color green, but I was also married on St. Patrick’s Day. So, I thought it fitting to start a holiday series of farmhouse décor with St. Patrick’s Day! This is piece one I’ll create and showcase as we go through the holidays over the next year. So, take a seat and learn how to make St. Patrick’s Day wall décor for your home … and it will only take you 10 minutes!

Celebrations

I’ll be celebrating my NINE-year anniversary this St. Patrick’s Day and boy have the years gone by quickly. We’ve created a beautiful life together and I wouldn’t change a thing. Our kids are absolutely perfect and God-given. Each of their stories is so unique that sometimes I just say out loud, “WOW God, your plans are sure much better than my own!”

With St. Patrick’s Day the beginning of our family, it’s hard not to reminisce! Since this wall décor is piece one in a series, you may want to buy the core items in bulk so you have them for the next holiday piece. I’m still deciding if I’ll put up these décor pieces all year round or if I’ll just put them up as the holiday comes. They will size in at 8” x 8” each, so either way works!  You can decide after you make your St. Patrick’s Day wall décor!

Getting started

First, gather your supplies. I ordered buffalo check peel and stick wallpaper, a pack of 8” x 8” wood square cutouts, along with ½” x 12” wood square dowel rods from Amazon. This will be the core pieces for the holiday series, if you want to join in and create one for each holiday! Then, I ordered a 3” clover wood cutout for St. Patrick’s Day! If you don’t have any paint on hand, you can order an acrylic set that should get you though this holiday series as well.

You’ll also need some Gorilla glue and a stapler … although you can just use glue if you don’t have a stapler.

Assemble your St. Patrick’s Day wall décor

First, open your peel and stick wallpaper …. As I said, I ordered buffalo check, but you can use any pattern you want! Cut the wallpaper the size of the 8” x 8” wood cutout. I’d suggest a rough cut a bit larger than the wood cutout and then using the wood cutout as a guide to cut it to exact size. You can use scissors or an Exacto knife, if you have one.

Next, take the backing off the wallpaper and stick onto the square wood cutout. As a side, you don’t have to use wallpaper for your background. You can paint it, decoupage on a fabric, or anything else you can think of!

Painting time!

Cut your ½ x 12” wood square dowel rods to fit nicely as a frame around the square cutout. Cut two 8″ and two 6 3/4″. You can use a Dremel or whatever tool you have. Now you are ready to paint your wood square dowel rods and your clover piece.

I used my acrylic paints and did a mix of white and black to make the gray I wanted. It only takes a little bit of black, so don’t use too much! I also watered down the paint a bit to make it glide on and give a “lighter” more weathered look as it went on the wood. I painted this on all four square wood dowels.

Then, I got out the green and painted the clover. The green wasn’t quite the shade I was going for, so I added just a slight touch of white to it. I wanted the traditional bright Kelly green for the clover, and the white seemed to get it close. I didn’t water the green down at all and just painted it onto the clover. This St. Patrick’s Day wall décor was coming along!

Putting the pieces together

Now all that’s left to this simple “how to make St. Patrick’s farmhouse wall décor” is to put the pieces together. I placed the square dowels on the front edges and turned over the wood cutout. I grabbed my stapler and stapled the back to hold on the frame. You could also glue on the frame if you would like, but stapling is quick and easy!

To finish out the décor, I glued on the clover and was done. It really only took me about 10 minutes all-in-all and makes a cute piece for my wall.

Piece one of a holiday series!

As I said, this is piece one of a holiday series over the next year. I’m not sure if I want to put the full series up on one of my walls or put up each piece as we approach a holiday. It’s so cute a gallery wall of them might look kind of cool! And I love the command hanging strips! They are perfect to hang up this farmhouse St. Patrick’s Day wall décor on your wall or front door or wherever.
