My Upcoming Entry Way Project

Entry Way project - Feature

Hi, my favorite readers! It’s a beautiful day and I have a new project coming up! As I was taking a shower the other day I was hit with inspiration. My entry way needs revamping and a vision came to mind while doing the mundane showering task.  I finished as quickly as I could, dressed and ran out to my husband and said, “Ben! I have a vision!”. He knows exactly what I mean when I say those words and he just waited for me to spill it. THUS, became my upcoming entry way project!

Entry Way? Hall Way?

The entry way to our home is mostly a hallway with the Harper and Miles’s rooms and bathroom off to the right and a bit further down is the area that goes to the garage, laundry and Sawyer’s bedroom. Then further down is the living/kitchen area. This hallway is longer and has been driving me nuts. It’s dull and lifeless and it needs a makeover!

Again, the flat builders paint wasn’t doing this entry any favors and my wall décor doesn’t seem to be cohesive. This entry hall definitely gets a lot of action since it’s a conduit to all things kids, exit and entry and laundry … so it’d need to be easily cleanable, yet light and bright and welcoming.

Corona Coloring Wall

Oh, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention our “Corona Coloring wall” that is proudly displayed in our entry way. During initial lockdown in 2020 we did a lot of coloring to keep us entertained. Since we were coloring so much, I thought it’d be fun to display the pictures on our wall so we could see it all together. The kids loved it and it was fun to display! I think maybe it’s time for it to go with this transformation …

Must solve for guest storage

In this entry way, we also have a hall closet that guests can put their coats in, but I have a shelf in there with all my paint supplies, so I need to solve for guest coat hanging/storage in this entry way. I’m thinking of getting a nice quality wood bench and then allow for coat hanging above the bench. I’d replace the table below with the bench and find a new home for my large painting!

The timeout chair!

This entry hall also houses our timeout chair. Yes, timeouts really do happen! I’d like to keep the chair in this location, but maybe change up the pink color to be more neutral for the boys. So, we’ll see how it all ends up!

Board and Batten!

But, the biggest transformation to this room is what I had in my lovely vision…and that is…drumroll, please: Board and Batten! Yes, it’s the perfect solution for this long hall. It’ll look great, be easily cleanable and I can do a brighter color above the board and batten with a white bottom.

Board and batten is a super easy project that we’ve done before, but it does require some time for the tedious parts of it. Getting up the boards tends to go quickly, but filling in all the holes and caulking all the edges is what takes a bunch of time.

This project requires painting … and more painting!

Then, of course painting needs to be done with two separate colors. I plan to do the Pure White trim color on the bottom but still undecided on what to do up top. I’m leaning toward Rainwashed from Sherwin Williams since it’s in the laundry room, kid’s bathroom and a couple accent walls in our living and kitchen areas. It’s a beautiful color and would fit the design vibe perfectly.

Project timeline

I anticipate this project will take us a couple evenings. One evening to get the board and batten up (or a Saturday). One evening to fill holes and caulk and then another evening or two for painting. I have to spread out the project time since I have three littles and a day job … but it’s my zen and the evenings are a perfect time to relax doing projects!
